Micheal Stephen Portnoy,37,is the youngest drummer to be into the"ROCK DRUMMERS HALL OF FAME"!
He is the walking example for obsessive cumpulsive disorder!But despite all this he is one of the greatest drummers the 20th century has ever seen or heard of!
Mike's major influnce's were The Beatles,Rush,Yes,Metallica,Iron Maiden,U2,Jane's Addiction and Queen.Mike is known as a pioneer in modern Progressive Rock Druuming!

DREAM THEATER FOR YOU!!!!!
The American progressive rock band established in 1985 is one of the greatest bands of all time!Back in India,many people are not quite fimilar with Dream Theater's hits such as:Metropolis,Beyond This Life,Hell's Kitchen,Octavarium,The Dance Of Eternity,Pull Me Under ,so on and so forth.Dream Theater has a wide range of creativty due to which Metal manics like me and my friends have have got lost into.

John Petrucci,John Myung and Mike Portnoy.The trio started off by covering songs by IRON MAIDEN and RUSH.Myung,Petrucci and portnoy setteled on the name "MAJESTY".To fill the remaining positions,John Petrucci asked his high school friend and Band-Mate Kevin Moore to play the keyboards for the band,while Chris Collins was asked to be the lead singer after the trio heard his singing "Queen Of The Reich"by Queensryche.Due to their hectic schedules the trio abandoned their studies and took their music to a greater height.Kevin Moore quit studies due to his serious involvement in the band.
The name "Dream Theater" was adopted in 1986 when the trio dicovered that another band existed with the same name.It was Mike Portnoy's father who suggested the name.

In November 1986 Chris Collins left the band due to creative differences.

However,the trio recruited CHARLIE DOMINICI,the oldest and the most experienced of the lot.

The Band concentrated on writing songs and performing in New York and the neighbouring states.They then became a full instrumental band"YSTE JAM".

Following Dominici's firing Dream Theater sucessfully fought to release "IMAGES AND WORDS"(see picture above). In 1991,KEVIN JAMES LeBRIE flew from Canada where he the singer of the Glam Metal Band "WINTER ROSE".JAMES LeBRIE was cleared and has been singer of DREAM THEATER ever since.

SCENES FROM A MEMORY:
Probably Dream Theater's "Greatest Album".But there was a slight change in the line-up where JORDON RUDDESS joined Dream Theater.Released in 1999,It recieved critical acclaim, even though METROPOLIS Pt.2 was no.73 on the Billboard.

FALLING INTO INFINITY:
Released in 1995, DEREK SHERINIAN was the new pianist for Dream Theater.It inclded hits such as HOLLOW YEARS,HELL'S KITCHEN,YOU NOT ME,ETC.
This was truly a victory for DREAM THEATER and we all hope that there are many more albums to follow af 2007's release of "SYSTEMATIC CHAOS"..
